Today my search for truth and culture continues! I will be diving into the heart of New Orleans. My goal is to connect and learn as much as I can about the spiritual practices, music, and daily life of the natives. Here's the thing, people will judge what they don't know and fear what they have no knowledge of. So me being the adventurer that I am, will go to the places most shy away from and bring back the gold. Quick history lesson: After slaves started a massive revolt in 1791 on the island of St. Domingue, where present-day Haiti is, the assortment of beliefs and practices brought over from different parts of Western Africa coalesced into New Orleans voodoo. Both white and black residents of St. Domingue. Due to the Haitian Revolution and the natives defeating the French and overcoming slavery, still to this day Europeans demonize the ancient practices of Africa and have implanted false information into our minds to turn us away from our innate power. Former slaves and refugees from Haiti brought these traditions with them when they migrated to New Orleans. I will be documenting my trip and filling you in on my finds. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention to you that I will also be celebrating the "Essence Festival" while I'm there, so stay tuned for some worldly fun as well. ;-) Let's see how the experiences in New Orleans bridge together and alchemize. See you on Bourbon street!
